Can I wear a full midi skirt without feeling too formal?
Allow us to temp you to dip your toe into the season's biggest skirt trend.
Today, we’re throwing in a mini newsletter for our paid subscribers on a topic we’ve both been mulling for the last few months: can we wear a full midi skirt without feeling too…prim? Proper? Betty Draper-ified?
Ever since the Spring Summer 2025 collections dropped last September, the full midi skirt has been slowly creeping towards the mainstream, with various iterations now available everywhere from local designers to the mass market high street. But for a whole generation of women addicted to wearing slouchy suit trousers and oversized denim, wearing such a ‘classic’ and feminine piece can feel a little out of sync.
But here’s the thing: a full midi skirt, with the right styling, can feel as contemporary, cool and relevant as any of your existing go-to staples. AND they come with the benefit of being extremely comfortable (especially if you’re opting for an elastic waist option).
The key here is to balance the silhouette and the style of a full skirt with tougher elements like a heavy boot or an oversized jacket or tee (to dial up the casual feel).
Most style conundrums can be answered by asking yourself how to better balance your outfit. If you love something but don’t feel like it could be part of your regular repertoire, it’s likely you’ll still be able to make it work by mixing it up with pieces that are.
When all else fails, use our Pinterest to help you to style a look that you love.
Or even better, sign up to our paid newsletter and ask us directly ♥️
Thanks for being here,
