The Shopping List: September
The 10 sexy spring finds turning our heads, and a bonus buy you can feel very good about.
The group chat was aflutter this week with talk of toes that have once more been freed from their wintry little cages. We have entered open-toed-with-trouser season and truly a more chic window does not exist. How exciting to finally be here. Although, it was perhaps mildly psychotic for Annie to kick about in her A.Emery leather thongs on the 1st of September when the temperature here in Melbourne was a rather rude 13 degrees. But spring makes the footwear rules, we don’t.
We were hanging for a new season to inject some energy back into our style, and this month’s shopping picks really capture the fizzy feeling we’re carrying around as the days get longer and the blooms get bloomier. An outfit-making belt, a perfect pair of spring heels, a crystal bag that looks like it’s been fished out of a storybook…you can see we’re feeling fairly optimistic about our social calendar in September.
And, as our first pick shows, optimism is indeed in order.
Happy browsing.

CAMILLA & MARC / It All Begins With Ovaries Tee — $120.00
CAMILLA & MARC / There Is No You Without Me Tee — $120.00
Camilla and Marc is rightly lauded as one of Australia’s most successful fashion labels, but they also deserve their flowers for being one of the most socially impactful for their #OvariesTalkAboutThem campaigns. For the past six years, Camilla and Marc has run an annual fundraising and awareness-raising initiative to raise money for a DNA-based early detection test for ovarian cancer. The initiative comes with a yearly viral merch-drive campaign that permeates social media thanks to a very clever, thoughtful gifting campaign to dozens, maybe hundreds, of people with influence both big and small.
Ovarian cancer is the most deadly female cancer, yet remains chronically underfunded and overlooked. But Camilla and Marc is changing that, and word on the street is that we are mere months away from a test being possible. This year’s Ovaries t-shirts are just the kind of statement tees we can get behind. It’s fashion, literally, saving lives.

NELSON MADE / Neive Wedge Koffee — $329.00
Holy smokes, it’s my perfect shoe. A little big 70s, a little bit minimal, a little bit modern – the perfect accompaniment for my spring hoofing needs. I really have no notes. Catch me gliding to events in these with an oversized suit and long silver pendant.

FRIENDS WITH FRANK x WONWONTUTU / Pouli Belt — $280
It’s hereeeeeeeee you guys! SPRING! I believe most life issues can be fixed by warmer weather, the smell of jasmine has already started influencing my mood as well as my dressing. There’s something about spring that heavily pushes the playful element in my wardrobe and this shopping list is of no exception. Call me dramatic, but like spring, I believe this belt will make life better.
I want to explore why it is exactly that my spring wardrobe is so much more playful and colourful than the cooler months, but I can bet it has something to do with my style framework.

RE/DONE / 50s Boxy “Drive In” Tee — $120.00 USD (on sale)
I like a vintage feel to my printed tees, but I rarely have time to trawl vintage stores, and I haven’t quite cracked the Etsy / eBay keyword nut here either. I once bought a Re/Done Hanes white singlet that seemed (is?) exorbitantly priced for what is really the most basic of basic items of clothing, but the thing about it is that it’s perfect? I wore it for six years straight until it was literally falling apart. So maybe it’s just the cost of doing business with a brand that really gets it.
I’m really into this print, too. Colours are good. Text is good. The price of convenience, baby!

ALIAS MAE / Olive Pony — $219.95
It may be a little late in the season for a closed-toe flat but this shoe has me under it’s spell. I think it’s because everything else i’ve been purchasing is pretty neutral, for budget reasons, and i’ve been so careful to make sure that this goes with that. But there is something about the onset of spring and this shoe in it’s perfect shade of mint? Sage? Wasabi? …that has me ready to throw all neutrals in the bin. I feel like this tone of green could almost be considered a neutral anyway.

LESSER STORES / Basket Shoulder Bag — $149.00 (pre-order)
I stumbled across this bag in one of Jade Fox’s recent newsletters, and realised I am forever in search of the perfect woven straw bag as soon as my weather app shows me a number above 19 degrees. I love the long, contrasting dark strap on this, and the fact it’s made by hand by artisans in Ghana.
Bonus points for this bag also leading my to discover this lovely store. I have travel planned to Adelaide next month, so I will definitely be stopping in for a sticky beak.

DEERING / The Good Day Jean — $290
I’m on the hunt for my next all day everyday blue jean. I wore a pair of Ksubi straight legs (similar here) for a good five years and still love them although they’re fitting a little differently / firmly around the mid section post bebe. I moved onto the Elka Collective Apollo which I still wear regularly, their ultra oversized nature is exactly what I was seeking postpartum. Then came my entry into the world of barrel legs, with the softest pair of jeans i’ve ever owned. Again, i’m still wearing this style often, but all the wideness has naturally left me coming full circle and craving a slightly slimmer, straighter leg once again. It was only a matter of time.
Enter: the DEERING Good Day Jean. I’m yet to try it on but I’m planning a trip to their Hawksburn store soon. I’ll report back.

RÓHE / Contrast Extended Lining Shorts — $800.00 (approx)
Filing these under fantasy purchase, but my god what a nice fantasy. I love the contrast of the tailored black culotte with the fluid white under-layer peeking out, it’s so playfully sexy in the most knowing way. Spring fashion fairy godmother, bring them to me at once!

CHIMI / Saint — $390
The ultimate outfit finisher, i’m in love with everything Chimi right now.
Annie
ASSEMBLY LABEL / Nixie Stripe Mini Skirt — $70
Ok, this one is more in my price range and, reader, I’ve already purchased her. I’m travelling to Byron Bay this week and wanted something to coax my legs out from under the long, hard Melbourne winter. I like the poplin fabrication, especially for spring when worn with a light cashmere knit for a sweet bit of contrast. Throw in an over-the-top necklace and I’m ready to gorge myself on saganaki and carafes of wine at Kouzina.

ALBUS LUMEN / Mini Crystal Bag — $490
It’s not in the budget but a girl can dream. Pair with literally anything and make the outfit infinitely better. I’d be keeping all looks clean, ultra casual and minimal — then adding her <3
