What are women wearing this summer?
We ask Ashiya Omundsen of Melbourne label Par Moi for her hot weather wardrobe diary.
In response to the incredibly positive feedback for our ‘What do women wear to work?’ series, we decided to follow up with likeminded series, originally titled; ‘What are women wearing this summer?’. Because we wanna know. And we know you do too.
Up first is the divine and über cool Ashiya Omundsen of ultimate anti-fast fashion label, Par Moi. I don’t say über cool about many people, in fact I don’t think I’ve ever said it, but it’s what comes to mind when I think about Ashiya. She oozes the stuff. Cool that is. Which you’ll see below. I met her many years ago through styling (hii, it’s Sophie) and have adored following both her and the journey of her Melbourne based label since.
This newsletter is also incidentally a masterclass in both pregnancy and postpartum ‘soft dressing’ without sacrificing on your style given Ashiya has an 8 month old baby. As it happens, low and elasticated waists are a plenty at Par Moi and handily sit just so underneath a bump.
A little more about the label while we’re here, as homeroom is all about celebrating local labels. Founded in early 2019, Par Moi translates to ‘by me’ — a fitting encapsulation of Ashiya’s highly personal approach. Every piece is designed, drafted, cut and crafted by Ashiya in Melbourne using deadstock fabrics. A low-fi aesthetic and premium craftsmanship is the ideal vehicle for Ashiya’s design sensibility.
Across a range of apparel and jewellery, Par Moi blends contemporary femininity with playful detailing. Vintage influences sit alongside deconstructed silhouettes. With no collections, each Par Moi piece is intended to stand alone as an enhancement to the wearer’s personal style.
We hope you love this series as much as we love putting it together, if you’re anything like us you’re likely sick of the slick, sheen and sameness of algorithm dressing. So who better to look to for inspiration than the most stylish real women around us. BYO creases and stains.
Thanks for being here with us.
Sophie & Annie

Monday
It’s Christmas week and I’ve just arrived to Brisbane with my little family (husband + 8 month old) from Melbourne. Traveling with a baby requires a LOT of stuff, so I’ve tried to keep what I’ve packed for myself to a minimum (reformed overpacker in progress). My 8 month old has a lot of influence over what I wear at the moment for the following reasons:
Breastfeeding access.
He’s deep in his grabbing and pulling at everything era, especially shiny metals.
We spend a decent portion of the day hanging out on the floor.
We’re here for three weeks so today is just a settling in and gathering supplies day, very casual. It’s also oppressively hot.

Catching up with a few friends today and braving Harris Farms for more supplies. Humidity is through the roof so a hat is necessary to combat my extreme humidity-hair.

It’s Christmas Eve and I’ve got some last minute things to get for Kris Kringle with my family and we’re hosting Christmas Eve dinner with my Mother in law and Brother in law. Pairing a big tee with a mid length skirt has been a go to for me postpartum when I don’t feel like I have two brain cells to put together, which is where I’m at today.

Sunday
Brisbane is starting to cool off a bit, thank goodness!! A relaxed day with some friends along the Brisbane River in New Farm. I’m wearing my favourite Par Moi pants, this cut was such a go to in pregnancy because of the low elastic waist and I still love them postpartum. My husband is also in charge of the nappy bag today so I’ve opted for the smallest bag I have with me, I got it in Lisbon from the maker at a market, it’s upcycled from fabric remnants, which I love.
TEE: KIJUN / Smocked Tee (sold out) — available in black $140 (on sale)
